Public opinion in the United States has grown significantly more favorable toward immigration since President Trump returned to office. A Gallup poll from June 2025 shows that 79 percent of adults view immigration as a good thing, a substantial increase from 64 percent the previous year. The share of Americans who want immigration reduced dropped from 55 percent to 30 percent. These shifts appeared across political lines, with Republican support for immigration rising to about two-thirds and independent support reaching nearly 80 percent.
A large majority of respondents also support legal status for undocumented immigrants. About 85 percent favor a path to citizenship for people brought to the U.S. as children, and nearly as many support it for other undocumented immigrants who meet certain requirements. At the same time, support for deporting all undocumented immigrants fell from 47 percent to 38 percent. Despite these trends, nearly two-thirds of Americans say they disapprove of how Trump is handling immigration, revealing a gap between public opinion and the administration’s policy approach.
