By Gonzalez Olivieri, on Immigration Updates
Germany's Federal Foreign Office issued an updated travel advisory on Tuesday warning German citizens about demonstrations and potential clashes with U.S. immigration and security authorities, particularly in Minneapolis and other cities where protests against the Trump administration's immigration enforcement have occurred. The advisory, which supplements an existing warning about severe winter weather, advises travelers to avoid crowds where violence might occur, monitor local media, and comply with local authorities' instructions. The warning follows incidents including fatal shootings by federal agents in Minneapolis and reports of ICE agents threatening international journalists.
The advisory reflects heightened tensions during the Trump administration's aggressive deportation campaign, including the deployment of federal agents under "Operation Metro Surge." While Germany characterized the advisory as impartial travel information rather than a political statement, it underscores international concerns about the scale and conduct of current immigration enforcement operations. Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, a Democrat critical of the federal operation, recently held a telephone call with President Trump to discuss the situation.
