Chicago Mayor Signs Executive Order Directing City to Resist Trump’s Immigration Raids

By Gonzalez Olivieri, on Immigration Updates

On August 30, 2025, Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson signed an executive order directing city agencies and police to not cooperate with federal immigration enforcement amid an anticipated Trump administration crackdown. The executive order comes in response to federal plans to deploy large numbers of ICE and other federal agents, and possibly the National Guard, to sanctuary cities like Chicago. Mayor Johnson emphasized the constitutional rights of residents and accused the Trump administration of abusing power for political retaliation. The executive order also prohibits Chicago police from hiding their identities during operations. Governor Pritzker and other Illinois Democrats have also denounced the federal plans as unconstitutional and politically motivated.
